Dear Panther Lake Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your families are enjoying a wonderful spring! Believe it or not, while our hallways are still buzzing with this year's learning, we are already looking ahead to the next. We are officially beginning the student scheduling process for the upcoming school year.  Our primary goal is to create balanced, vibrant classrooms where every child can thrive. This involves a thoughtful collaboration between current teachers, specialists, and administration to ensure we match student needs with the right learning environment.

Your Input Matters

We recognize that as parents, you have a unique perspective on your child’s strengths, personality, and learning style. If you would like to share insights that you believe would help us in our placement process, we invite you to send us an email.

Specifically, we find it helpful to hear about:

  • The type of learning environment in which your child is most successful.
  • Specific teaching styles or characteristics that resonate with your child (e.g., highly structured, project-based, nurturing, etc.).

A Note on Teacher/Friend Requests

While we value your insight regarding your child's needs, please note that we cannot honor requests for specific teachers. Our staffing and class compositions are subject to change, and our commitment is to build classrooms that are balanced in terms of academic needs, social dynamics, and class size. Focusing on the qualities of a teacher rather than a specific name allows us the flexibility to make the best possible placement for every student.  Additionally, we will not accept requests for friends to be placed in the same class.

Next Steps:

  • Deadline: Please submit any information via email by Friday, May 22nd.
  • Where to send: Please email Christine.Szymanski@ocps.net with the subject line: "Placement Input - [Student Name] - [Upcoming Grade Level]"

Thank you for your continued partnership and for trusting us with your child’s educational journey. We are looking forward to another fantastic year at Panther Lake ES!

Warmly,

Dr. Christine Szymanski
